can someone point out whats wrong?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I’ve been wanting to trim down.
and ive given myself the summer to at least start that.
i’m 5″4 and 120 but it doesn’t look like it on my body. probably since I have a short torso. idk.

i’m a vegetarian and hate most fried and greasy foods. i don’t eat alot, i like slads and vegetable and fruits alot, really. especially greek salads and all that.
i sometimes have cheese, not often. and although i don’t eat meat i eat alot of nuts and soybeans.
i have a sweet tooth, but try to limit myself. to something small a day like half a chocolate bar.
i do cheerleading three times a week for 2 hours each time. i want ot start taking dance lessons too. whatever day i don’t do cheer, i usually like to swim for an hour a day, at least..
i don’t smoke or drink or anything icky like that.
and i love sleep. i gotta get at least 12 hours or i’m exhausted.
i’ve started doing some ab excercises but i don’t feel like they’ve helped.

can someone point out from what i’m doing wrong? =/

What type of plant in fertilizer experiment?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

I am testing a basic fertilizer (consisting of amino acids, small peptides, sugars, and nutrients). I’m considering brassica rapa and soybeans. Any other suggestions/improvements?

The fertilizer is the end product of an alkaline hydrolysis tissue digestion (cows, horses, chickens, roadkill, etc) and I am establishing some baseline data. We already have land application permits for the states in which I have applied, but I need to gather some baseline data to determine the fertilizer value of the effluent. I will be testing liquid form and naturally dehydrated (looks like a porous dirt flake). I will also test the product alone as well as in a manure slurry. Any help is appreciated.
saff- thank you for your info. I’m considering a top soil, consistent across all plants. I’d also like to test established plants in their current environment, but maybe as a side project sice there will be too many affecting variables. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Should I be taking iron supplements?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

I’m a 19 year old female, I don’t consume meat but I occasionally eat eggs and fish. My protein comes from soy foods like meatless chicken nuggets and soybeans. I was told I have low iron about 3 years ago while I was still eating meat regularly, so now I am scared that I’ve become anemic. I am nervous to take iron because I have heard it can make you nauseous or actually sick, and I’m emetophobic and absolutely terrified of throwing up or even feeling nauseous, especially when I could avoid it entirely. I want to know if it is that important for me to take iron supplements, are there special brands, (I’m in ON, Canada), that for sure won’t upset my stomach or a special way to take them? I want to be healthier and continue to be meat free. Thanks in advance!!

Could the United States become a third world country?

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

I saw this on a Lou Dobbs report last night on CNN:

“America’s fastest- growing exports do not look like this communications and wireless equipment, computer parts, semiconductor manufacturing equipment. According to the U.S. Business and Industry Trade Council, those sectors were among America’s worst export performers last year. America’s best performers — fertilizers, coal, crude oil, natural gas, soybeans, corn, wheat, a top 10 list dominated by raw materials or commodities. Typically countries which make and export commodities are generally poor, third-world countries with low standards of living”
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0902/19/ldt.01.html

Isn’t that scary? We’re already seeing the decline of this country. I’m already seeing it myself. The main road near my house hasn’t been paved in … years. There’s an intersection not far from here and the traffic signals are so old and rusty, I sometimes wonder if they’re about to fall off (they hang from wires). This country is going down hill, fast.

Before you all get all partisan … remember that you cannot blame ONE person or ONE political party for the problems we have today in America. This is the fault of many. But how do we solve it? All opinions welcome.
Good point on Lou Dobbs Welb … he sometimes makes me depressed too. He really is a cynic, but he also has some valid points about what’s happening to this country.
Ashton - that is correct, my road has not been paved in years. There are set’s of traffic signals in this city that barely function at times. I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in living in a sub standard country.
Francoise - When you go to the store, pick up an item, any item, and try to see where it’s made. You will see “MADE IN CHINA”. There’s no need to live in denial of the reality of our current situation.

I get my news from a variety of sources. Just because I use one particular source that you do not like, does not mean it is not true.

Is all organic food sold in the US definitely NOT genetically engineered/modified?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The reason I am asking is because I drink soy milk a lot, and noticed that only Silk (and perhaps a couple of other, rarely-sold, brands) has a label stating that their soybeans were not genetically engineered (or modified - I take it that it means the same), while other brands of Soy milk just label their milk “Organic.” This makes me doubt other brands, although I personally prefer Vitasoy, which I had to stop drinking once I saw the label on Silk, and then realized that most of other organic products never (or almost never) say anything about their ingredients being genetically engineered.

I need help solving word problems?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I HAVE never understood word problems, my teacher always me but never got it. Teachers are using diagrams which further confuse me, please show me how to simplify a word problem. Here are 2 example….

62) To make a flour mix, a miller combined soybeans that cost $ 8.50 per bushel with wheat that costs $4.50 per bushel. How many bushels of each were used to make a mixture of 800 bushels that cost $5.50 per bushel?

65) A tea mixture was made from 30lb of tea that costs $6.00 per pound and 70lb of tea that costs $3.20 per pound. Find the cost per pound of the tea mixture.

YOU SEE I DO NOT GET IT.

Please, when Answering go step by step on how you solved it and what key words I should follow.

Are India & China really straining the food market so that prices are sky-high everywhere? Ethenol, oil,?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

draughts-don’t all of these factor in as well? I truly believe that it will all get worse before it gets better, but how much can Americans take? We haven’t had to live ‘hard’ in such a long time. Gas prices here (WI) are now $4.00 a gallon. It’s harder and harder to feed my family. Our income has not gone up, but nearly every retail item has. Even natural gas (to heat our homes) and electricity rates are up. Will my husbnd still have a job a year from now? I keep hearing that there is a huge rise in the middle class in both India & China and because of this they want better quality or more western type foods thus adding strain to the demand of food worldwide. But Australia had a 2 yr. draught killing their wheat crops and what about oil @ $125 a barrel? What choice of distribution doesn’t need oil? The stepped up production of ethenol has got farmers planting tons of corn instead of wheat/soybeans. Now what?

What are the leftovers from soy called?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Hey people! : D

So I make homemade soy milk, because of all the preservatives found in store-bought soy milk.

First, I soak and blend my soybeans in a food processor, add water, and squeeze out the soy milk through a sieve.
Then you repeat.
There, now all of you know my secret ;)
But after you can’t squeeze anymore out of the pureéd beans, there’s are grainy, powdery, and crumbly textured leftovers.

Then you can fry it up with some salt, garlic and onion powder, and pepper for a delish snack. But what’s the leftover called?

Soy Powder? Soy Waste? Soy…stuff?

Do I have an eating disorder?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

–I just asked this question, but I’m going to add a little to it.
Hello. I’m 15 years old, I weigh 118 pounds and I’m 5′2″
I know, I’m fatttt :/
Anyways, a couple of people on here before have told me I have an eating disorder.
I completely disagree.
I follow a diet of 900 calories a day, I try to eat only nutritious foods and I don’t allow soda, fried food, chips, foods high in fat, and any trans fats.
I’ve lost about 10 pounds in the last month and I want to be 100 pounds.
I exercise everyday, either I have tennis for at least 2 hours or I swim laps, bike around, play hockey or do the stairclimber for a half hour.
Anyways, today I’ve eaten A TON more than I usually do, because I have been baking cookies for the neighbors and I’ll admit I had some dough and a couple cookies (I couldn’t resist) and right now I actually kind of wish I had bulumia, I don’t know how to throw up though so I can’t :P agh.
so I’ve ate:
breakfast: 1/2 light english muffin with 1 teaspoon of light pb. (100 cal)
lunch: 1/3 cup cottage cheese, salad w/ light dressing and soybeans (110 cal)
snack: 2 cookies & dough :/ (probably like 250 calories! EW!)

okay so do you think I have an ED?
have I aten too much today?
how much do you think is a good weight for me?
anything else I’m doing wrong?

also, I LOVE to bake, and when I do I always end up eating the dough and then the final project when its done! should I stop baking all together? do you have any tips that you use to not eat the food you make?
I’m not trying to seek attention, I just want to know what you think of me and my body.
Please answer with respect.
