Am I Right Or Wrong? Give Up Some Of My Bone Marrow or What!Read the description before answering. ?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

i’m in middle school and there is this guy named arya that has leukemia! i didn’t know this until i got an email saying that only a bone marrow transplant would cure him. well i’m new at this school and i guess this kid doesn’t like new kids. when he was at school he would call me fat and makes fun of me. i fell bad for him and all but if he insults me should i give him my bone marrow just so he would live??? and why should i get my bone marrow taken out??? what they do is that they take a tiny bit of your bone marrow out and then compare it to his. if i’m his match they need to take out more. so i don’t want to give this kid my bone marrow, but should i or should i not???

Donating Bone Marrow. Do you have to pay to get registered?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I was looking up information on how to be a bone marrow donor and from the information I found.. they require at least $50 dollars to pay for the testing kit.. Is this true? And from there, if you do match someone, are there other expenses occured with the procedure itself?
Just an FYI I am just making sure that this is a real thing or a sad attempt to take peoples money, and I was wondering more financial information from then on so I know if this is something I can do now, or if it might have to wait until I am done with college.

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

the patient suffered twice from blood cancer previously. his platelet level fell to 16000, got platelets charged utpto 100,000 and again fell back to 37,000. The report showed that 90% has come back again. Food intake is minimal, had fever last night. Please advice the scenario, longevity of the patient, precautions?
Dear Mary, thanku for ur response. Yes it is for PML. The treatment was chemotharapy twice before… and has repeated again after 1.5 years…. I would like to know the Precautions to be taken/ longevity of the patient/ chances of happening again/ he is in his late thirties. Your reply would be highly appreciated.

does anybody know about bone marrow disorders?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

first off, i feel fine, my dr did a cbc and had a blood smear done. the results were macrocytosis without anemia. the rbc morphologhy was normal, platelets normal. occasional ovalocytes were noted. she tested liver, thyroid and vitamin b12-allnormal. i guess alcohol can cause a rise in the mcv. she told me to quit drinking for 3 months, and have cbc redone, if mcv is stil high might possible check bone marrow. i guess my question is would some other abnormality have shown up if there was a problem with my marrow? im kinda freaking out here! anything anyone can offer would be great, thankyou and have a wonderful day!

bone marrow donation and small/deep veins?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I am a whole blood donor (just made my 9th pint) and they always have trouble finding my vein because it’s too small and/or too deep. I guess I’m a nightmare for my blood center staff since I’ve had much more failures than success in finding the right spot in my left hand (my right hand is even worse). I am considering joining the Bone Marrow Registry, if I am a match would I be able to actually donate with my troublesome veins ? are the donation site and needle size the same as for whole blood donation? thank you
I am asking specifically about PBSC donation procedure that is done in a local blood center or clinic. I will avoid any procedure that involves general anesthesia (and travel).

Does anyone have a list of what RMB are okay for dogs?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I’m switching from raw “patties” to real meaty bones now. I know there are a few that are risky, like marrow bones, ribs… But I’d like a real good list of what’s good and what’s not so good. I’m going to the meat store later to see what I can find…

Does anyone have one or a link to one?

Thanks in advance!

National Donor Marrow Program question?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I am hoping someone can answer this for me. I am waiting for a bone marrow transplant and am on the transplant list.

Someone who was put on the National Donor Marrow Program registry, said there was a way to put in the person you are getting tested for specifically, to make sure that it is tested against mine. However, a few of my friends who have tried to order a kit online, have not found a place to put in my name.

So please help!! And what does this entail with putting my information in? Will they be notified whether or not they are specifically a match to me?

Any information would help. It’s kind of urgent. Thank you

Hmm, bone marrow.need somebody smart?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Okay, ive been having chest pains for 8 months now, on the far left side. Ive been tested for everything, acid reflux, blood clots, pleurisy, i’ve had chest x-rays, and multiple ekgs, had my body chemicals tested and not one doctor can figure out whats wrong. I’ve have pain killers for it, but it doesn’t really help. They checked for stress, and it wasn’t that either, nor a torn muscle or costochondritis. Literally been checked for everything. Somebody mentioned it could be something to do with my bone marrow? Or if you think you know what it is please let me know.
