thinner calves / calfs, weight loss in general?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

does anybody know of any excersizes to make your calves thinner? has anybody had any success with making theirs thinner? mine are REALLY wide and I hate them! they also look kinda purple and blotchy which is probably to do with them being fat because my feet are normal from the ankles down, weird! I really need to lose weigh in general, about 3 stone or about 40lbs :( my thighs kinda stick out over my calves as well if that makes sense….. any tips? I have decided to try and cut out junk food and eat healthy stuff like fruit and veg and brown bread and drink lots of fruit juice. does anyone know if things like houmous and lentils are low in fat and healthy? Thanks!

I am 16 years old, and trying hard to loose weight. I am having no success. Any one think they can help?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I weigh 198 pounds and I am only 5′6. I don’t really understand how this works, you see I have been trying so hard to loose weight. Two months ago I joined my schools swim team which practices for one and a half hours 2 times a week. I started my lacrosse season again which practices 4 times a week from January to June, and then has games 6 times a week from April to June. I tale 80 minutes of daily PE in my school. I don’t eat out at any restaurant, at least not in the last 2 months. I am a vegetarian (have been since I was six years old) so I don’t eat fatty meats, but a lot of lentils, beans and soy products. I don’t drink cows milk (low fat soy milk for me) but I do eat fat free, unsweetened yogurt. I have treats (chocolate, ice cream, chips, muffins, cup cakes, cake, ) no more than once a week, although I do enjoy diet pop 2 or 3 times a week. And since I started my new healthy life style January 1st, I have gained 5 pounds! Please be polite, and offer me suggestions!

If you’re bodybuilding, and your plan hasn’t worked by the sat of competition, how do you un ‘flatten’ at end?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

What is the best way, if you end up (screw the lack of space in description) doing the carb loading thing and also the water/sodium depletion thing, (my plan is 3 gallons up to this wednesday then going to 1 gallon early early thursday then parch, sodium relatively high (still under 2.4g though) through half wednesday, then only what’s in boiled chicken from 12pm on and none on thursday through competition, then start carb loading with pearled barley and lentils or brown pasta (low GI) on early friday, probably about 300g not counting those for fiber,) and once you do the whole thing, you STILL LOOK SMALL? FLAT!?

I’ve heard sip water, I’ve heard NEVER do this as you will ONLY retain it under skin after all vasopressin&adah has set in, I’ve heard to eat fat but that doesn’t make much sense to me…

I plan saturday morning to eat white rice, microwaved all water out with pure honey/jam… Should I just not nuke out water there, or what, if that morning I look way too small still?
Obviously, this is only if you are panicing. But this happened last time and I just kept eating carbs, it didn’t help, but then again I started the day of per the advice of someone that this works for; I don’t know if I should be starting at thursday carb loading but I won’t till after this contest. Experience, I know, I’m just looking for a backup plan for this one, I’ll record hourly what’s going on during saturday; if I don’t ever end up flattening out cuts, I’ll know to start thursday sometime next contest…

It’s just I’ve worked 12 weeks for this, it’s been hard cause my body isn”t used to cutting this far (only second time), I don’t want what cuts I have to go away by starting too early! PRE JUDGING!

Vegetarian Meals For A Picky Eater?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

So, I’m a very picky eater, but I’m having a hard time being vegetarian just because I’m so picky. I don’t like the usual suspects (Brussel sprouts, asparagus, mushrooms), and some veggie meats have horrible squishy soggy textures. I don’t have money for tofu. I have veggie chicken, veggie burger, and beans and lentils. Anyone have any ideas for a picky eater?
I don’t want to be completely unhealthy and only eat chips or something like that.
But no, I don’t eat fish.

My Iron level is 10.5 and I’m 25 weeks pregnant?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I live in Fiji and have a (little bit) of faith in the medical system.

I am already taking a supplement that has 65mg of iron in it. Before I got pregnant this time I was a vegetarian (and had always had high iron) but from about two months pregnancy I went off lentils etc. so started eating lean red meat and lots of leafy green vegetables at least three times a week. Having been a vegetarian, I know everything there is to know about natural iron absorption !

However, my doctor has said that all I can do is to take more iron supplements orally. Is this normal and is this healthy ? She said that they won’t do IV iron until my iron drops below 9. I just want to know, is the same standard applied in developed countries ? And how much more iron can I take orally without it being unhealthy ?
My supplement also has folic acid and B12. And I always either cook my meat with tomato or drink grapefruit juice when I eat it.

Anybody else see how bad this food is?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Oat Groats, Millet, Alfalfa Meal, Milo, Safflower Seed, Sunflower Seeds, Corn, Kibbled Corn, Pineapple, Buckwheat, Wheat, Peanuts, Banana, Raisins, Lentils, Squash, Pumpkin Seed, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Green Peas, Cantaloupe Seed, Navy Beans, Carrot, Potatoes, Apples, Papaya, Wheat Flour, Cheese Meal, Semolina Flour, Soybean Meal, Gluten Meal, Soy Oil, Di-Calcium Phosphate, Dried Brewers Yeast Fermentation Product, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Cholecalciferol (Source of Vitamin D3), Alpha Tocopherol (Source of Vitamin E), Ascorbic Acid (Source of Vitamin C), Thiamine Mononitrate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfate (Source of Vitamin K), Choline Chloride, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Niacin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Copper Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, Cobalt Chloride, Manganese Proteinate, Iron Methionine, Zinc Proteinate, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Product, Dried Lactobacillus Bulgaricus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Lactis Fermentation Product, Sulphur Dioxide (a preservative), FD&C Color and Artificial Flavors.

Those are the ingredients in Brown’s Tropical Carnival Mouse and Rat food sold at PetCo. I can’t believe people pay for and feed this to their rats. Soybean anything should be in front of half the stuff on this list. >.< Comments?
Live,Laugh,Learn,Love... I don't buy it for my rats, I use Mazuri lab block which is healthier for my rats than ANY mixture. And being a block it helps grind their teeth down anyways.

I pointed out how bad this food was because it is sold at Petco. The ingredients are awful. In mixtures like these your rat picks out what he likes best and doesn't eat the other parts which tend to be healthier for them. Soybean anything should be the number one ingredient rather than the 15th or so. Other items on this list are useless in their nutrition and just make them fat.

My son just turned one and I am concerned about his height and weight?

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

My son just turned one. We had his one yr chkup. His height and weight are low in the chart. He is just 18.16 in weight and below avg in height. I’m breastfeeding since his birth. I started solids when he was 5 months old. I am feeding him bottle food and rice cereal and gradually stared home prepared foods like rice and lentils, stremed apples and veggies, OJ( we are vegetarians, we do eat cake and cheese but no raw eggs).

I am planning to start whole milk soon. My question is what healthy food can I feed him, so that he gets proper nutrition and gain weight and height. How much milk can I give him everyday and how much water can I give him? Is there any particular food shud I need to avoid? I am realy worried about his health. Truly appreciate if someone can share infomation about foods I can start. Somewhere I read cheese is good source of calcium. How much cheese and what kind of cheese is better? how good cheerios are?
Thanks

What to eat if have diabetes and are a vegetarian?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

First, I will confess that I am not a vegetarian, but really enjoy many vegetarian meals i.e. rice and beans, lentils and rice with fried onions, etc. However, I can’t really eat that many carbs and maintain my blood sugars. So somebody please tell me what to vegan/vegetarian diabetics eat!! TIA
I have actually already been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my nutritionist suggested adding ground chicken or turkey to the meals to make it fewer carbs. This is not an option I am happy with. I really can’t tolerate the carbs and maintain my blood sugars. Realistically this is the diet I was on before my diagnosis, and I was 404 random and 303 fasting. So trust me it didn’t help prevent my diabetes or bring down my blood sugars!
Oh, and I was eating brown rice!
